46th Annual Wright Kite Festival

July 9, 2024

The Outer Banks are known for many things, from Banker horses to beautiful beaches! One of my favorite things about the region is the rich history. In 1903, the Outer Banks were the site of the first flight. This July, come celebrate this historic event in Kitty Hawk during Wright Kite Fest!

Thanks to Kitty Hawk Kites, people from all over are able to take flight where flight first began!

This special festival will take place at the Wright Brothers National Memorial. Take a walk on the historic grounds where Wilbur and Orville Wright took their first flight. In the sky, admire amazing 30- to 100-foot kites, including a 100-foot octopus, 80-foot panda, and a 50-foot fish, and more. You can also fly a kite of your own, take a free stunt kite flying lesson, and help the kids make their own kites.

Can't make it to this event? You can still check out Wright Brothers National Memorial on your next visit! Immerse yourself in history on your own or participate in educational events, like the ranger-led Wind and Sand program, which provides a great overview of the Wright Brothers.

Don't miss this exciting event on July 19-20, 2024. Admission to the park is $10 for ages 16+, but participation in Wright Kite Fest is free!
