Celebrate International Dark Sky Week in the Outer Banks

April 11, 2022

Did you know that 83% of the global population lives under a light-polluted sky? Each time you look at the sky, you're seeing only a portion of what's out there. During International Dark Sky Week, you'll have the chance to see unpolluted sky in the Outer Banks!

On April 22 and 23rd, you're invited to North Carolina's newest International Dark Sky Park, Cape Lookout National Seashore, for an International Dark Sky Week celebration! Discover the night this April at Cape Lookout

Island Express Ferry Service will provide transportation to and from Cape Lookout Visitors Center, departing at 7:30 PM and cruising the water by starlight to get you to the park in time for public stargazing at 8 PM. Guests can then experience unparalleled views of the night skies over Cape Lookout.

While you're at Cape Lookout, be sure to head to Cape Lookout Lighthouse, where NASA Solar System Ambassador Brandon Porter will talk about what you're seeing above you. There will also be telescopes at the Visitors Center for you to use!

Enjoy until 9 PM, when the ferry is scheduled to head back. Cruises must be reserved in advance by calling 252-728-7433. Adult tickets will be $27, while kids tickets will be $15.
