Memorial Day is almost here! Serving as the unofficial start to the summer season, Memorial Day in the Outer Banks means fun in the sun! Here's how you can make the most of the holiday! 

Memorial Day at the beach is an amazing American tradition. Come spend the weekend relaxing on the serene Outer Banks coast! [Rodanthe Beach](https://www.outerbanks.org/plan-your-trip/towns-and-villages/rodanthe/) is a favorite of visitors and locals alike. [Cape Hatteras National Seashore](https://www.nps.gov/caha/index.htm) is also popular! Of course, you'll love any of the beautiful Outer Banks beaches! 

For a little more action, try out kiteboarding! The Outer Banks is the ultimate [kite boarding and wind boarding](https://www.outerbanks.org/things-to-do/water-activities/water-sports/kiteboarding-and-windsurfing/) destination. It is also a great place for [surfing](https://www.outerbanks.org/things-to-do/water-activities/water-sports/surfing/) or [fishing](https://www.outerbanks.org/things-to-do/water-activities/fishing/)! 

In honor of the holiday, visit one of the local Outer Banks attractions dedicated to military history! The [Chicamacomico Coast Guard Museum](https://www.outerbanks.org/listing/chicamacomico-lifesaving-station-historic-site/259/) honors the Chicamacomico Life Saving Station, which was a predecessor to the modern U.S. Coast Guard. There's also Torpedo Alley and the [Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum](https://www.outerbanks.org/listing/graveyard-of-the-atlantic-museum/300/), which offers great exhibits and programs on a variety of topics related to military history.
