December 20, 2021

Weeping Radish is North Carolina's first microbrewery. It opened in Manteo in 1986 before moving to Currituck in 2001. Over its 35 years of operation, the establishment has developed quite a following.

Currently, Weeping Radish is known for its German-style beer, which is brewed in accordance with the Bavarian Reinheitsgebot Purity Law of 1516. The beer must be brewed using only four ingredients: hops, malt, yeast, and water. This means that the beer is free of additives, chemicals, and preservatives. They serve a variety of beers- some traditional, some innovative, but all good. The brewery expands these same principals to its food, so it proudly serves delicious, locally-sourced meals.

In 2022, Weeping Radish will operate under new ownership. The microbrewery will close on January 1 for renovations and transitioning before reopening later. The new owners, SAGA Realty and Construction, have big plans for the brewery.

The new owners plan to preserve the traditions of the brewery. They intend to keep the brewery's environment homey and happy, and to maintain the emphasis on local food and ingredients, all-the-while expanding the offerings. Guests can expect a larger array of locally pastured meats and a new biergarten.

Keep an eye on the Weeping Radish website and social media to catch some behind-the-scenes glances at the transformation and to watch for the brewery's reopening. Great things are in store!
