Manteo is such a fun town. There are lots of interesting things to see and do here- Island Farm being one of them! In Manteo, spring is on the way, and it’s time to shear the sheep! Annual sheep shearing day is planned for March 25th and will take place from 9am to 3pm.

During this event, you can watch as the farm's sheep are hand-shorn. You'll witness a historic process that dates back to the mid-19th century on Roanoke Island. This year, national sheep-shearing champion Kevin Ford will be on-site to demonstrate shearing!

This event also marks the start of Island Farm's 2023 season, so there will be plenty of activities to partake in! There will be butter-making, blacksmithing with the Manteo Blacksmith, hearth cooking, wagon rides, wool bracelet crafts, plus washing, drying, spinning, carding, and weaving wool into useful items!

Island Farms is a living history farmstead, so they are experts at educating and entertaining. They offer visitors a glimpse into coastal history and the realities of life on Roanoke Island in the mid-1800’s. Programming and activities will vary throughout the season, so you can visit over and over again without getting bored!

You can see so much history for only $10! Bring the whole family and enjoy a lovely spring day!
