On May 30, 2023, Southern Living shared their favorite things to do in Duck, declaring “Duck is the tiny Outer Banks town you have to visit now.” In their guide, they praise the charming waterfront village for its sense of community. Duck is the perfect destination for anyone who wants to enjoy a quiet but active vacation. While staying in this quaint town (which has a permanent population of less than 1000 people), you’re bordered by water on both sides, so you feel like you’re on your own private island. There’s no shortage of stuff to do, though! Southern Living praises the shopping in Duck, as well as the local boardwalk, the boat tours, the pristine sandy shores, the crabbing, and the food scene.

On June 1, 2023, Southern Living followed up with a guide to Nags Head. This barrier island town has lots to offer visitors, but Southern Living has narrowed the offerings to what they believe is the best of Nags Head. Highlights of a trip to Nags Head include gorgeous beaches, fresh seafood, and family-friendly fun. Southern Living further praises the island’s location, which makes it convenient to many attractions and amenities, as well as its pier, waterspouts, and great restaurants. They specifically recommend that visitors check out major local attractions such as Jockey's Ridge State Park and the Bodie Island Light Station.
